Track TikTok Ads with UTMCAP
TikTok’s macros have double underscores at each end, and the names are not the ones you would guess: an ad set is __AID__ and an ad is __CID__. UTMCAP records TikTok’s own click ID, ttclid, on every click; the spend connector is built and waiting on TikTok’s approval.
Your tracking URL
This is the URL UTMCAP builds for a TikTok Ads campaign. Yours has your own tracking domain and campaign in place of the example — copy it from the campaign, not from here.

TikTok Ads replaces each macro with the real value when the ad is clicked, and UTMCAP stores it in the matching field — so reports can be grouped by campaign, placement or device.
| Field | What it records | TikTok Ads macro |
|---|---|---|
| sub1 | Campaign ID | __CAMPAIGN_ID__ |
| sub2 | Campaign Name | __CAMPAIGN_NAME__ |
| sub3 | Ad Set ID | __AID__ |
| sub4 | Ad Set Name | __AID_NAME__ |
| sub5 | Ad ID | __CID__ |
| sub6 | Ad Name | __CID_NAME__ |
Worth knowing
Double underscores at each end. An ad set is AID and an ad is CID, not ADGROUP and AD.

How conversions get back to TikTok Ads
Spend via the Marketing API; conversions via the Events API, keyed on ttclid.
Set it up in three steps
- 1. Add TikTok Ads as a traffic source in UTMCAP and choose its template — the macros above are filled in for you.
- 2. Create a campaign with that source, and copy its tracking URL.
- 3. Paste it into TikTok Ads as the ad’s click or destination URL.
Every field of the traffic source form is explained in the traffic sources guide.
Point a domain at us and run a click through it.
