Track Adsterra with UTMCAP
Adsterra documents two macros: ##SUB_ID_SHORT(action)##, the click ID every conversion needs to match, and ##PLACEMENT_ID##. Conversions go back by postback from your Adsterra account, and spend syncs from Adsterra’s API with a key from your account.
Your tracking URL
This is the URL UTMCAP builds for a Adsterra campaign. Yours has your own tracking domain and campaign in place of the example — copy it from the campaign, not from here.
https://track.example.com/spring-sale?sub1=##SUB_ID_SHORT(action)##&sub2=##PLACEMENT_ID##What each macro records
Adsterra replaces each macro with the real value when the ad is clicked, and UTMCAP stores it in the matching field — so reports can be grouped by campaign, placement or device.
| Field | What it records | Adsterra macro |
|---|---|---|
| sub1 | Click ID | ##SUB_ID_SHORT(action)## |
| sub2 | Placement ID | ##PLACEMENT_ID## |
Worth knowing
Double hashes: ##SUB_ID_SHORT(action)## is the click id and is required for conversions to match. Adsterra documents only it and ##PLACEMENT_ID##.

How conversions get back to Adsterra
Postback URL comes from Tracking → Conversion Tracking in your Adsterra account: paste it with {clickid} replaced by {external_id}, and add &atpay={payout}. Real spend comes from the Integration tab with an API key.
In UTMCAP, {external_id} is Adsterra’s own click ID and {payout} is what the conversion paid — they are filled in when each conversion is sent.
Set it up in three steps
- 1. Add Adsterra as a traffic source in UTMCAP and choose its template — the macros above are filled in for you.
- 2. Create a campaign with that source, and copy its tracking URL.
- 3. Paste it into Adsterra as the ad’s click or destination URL.
Every field of the traffic source form is explained in the traffic sources guide.
