Social traffic source
Track Snapchat Ads with UTMCAP
Snapchat Ads is a social traffic source. Below are the macros UTMCAP fills in for it, the tracking URL it builds, and what happens to cost and conversions.
Your tracking URL
This is the URL UTMCAP builds for a Snapchat Ads campaign. Yours has your own tracking domain and campaign in place of the example — copy it from the campaign, not from here.
https://track.example.com/spring-sale?sub1={{campaign.id}}&sub2={{campaign.name}}&sub3={{adSet.id}}&sub4={{adSet.name}}&sub5={{ad.id}}&sub6={{ad.name}}&sub7={{site_source_name}}What each macro records
Snapchat Ads replaces each macro with the real value when the ad is clicked, and UTMCAP stores it in the matching field — so reports can be grouped by campaign, placement or device.
| Field | What it records | Snapchat Ads macro |
|---|---|---|
| sub1 | Campaign ID | {{campaign.id}} |
| sub2 | Campaign Name | {{campaign.name}} |
| sub3 | Ad Set ID | {{adSet.id}} |
| sub4 | Ad Set Name | {{adSet.name}} |
| sub5 | Ad ID | {{ad.id}} |
| sub6 | Ad Name | {{ad.name}} |
| sub7 | Site Source Name | {{site_source_name}} |
Worth knowing
Double braces, dot notation, and case-sensitive — adSet has a capital S, and {{adset.id}} renders as literal text.

How conversions get back to Snapchat Ads
Snapchat appends ScCid itself, capitalised that way. Conversions go back through their Conversions API.
Set it up in three steps
- 1. Add Snapchat Ads as a traffic source in UTMCAP and choose its template — the macros above are filled in for you.
- 2. Create a campaign with that source, and copy its tracking URL.
- 3. Paste it into Snapchat Ads as the ad’s click or destination URL.
Every field of the traffic source form is explained in the traffic sources guide.
Point a domain at us and run a click through it.
