Track NewsBreak with UTMCAP

NewsBreak is a native traffic source. Below are the macros UTMCAP fills in for it, the tracking URL it builds, and what happens to cost and conversions.

Your tracking URL

This is the URL UTMCAP builds for a NewsBreak campaign. Yours has your own tracking domain and campaign in place of the example — copy it from the campaign, not from here.

What each macro records

NewsBreak replaces each macro with the real value when the ad is clicked, and UTMCAP stores it in the matching field — so reports can be grouped by campaign, placement or device.

FieldWhat it recordsNewsBreak macro
sub1Click ID__CALLBACK_PARAM__
sub2Campaign ID__CAMPAIGN_ID__
sub3Flight ID__FLIGHT_ID__
sub4Creative ID__CREATIVE_ID__

Worth knowing

Double underscores each side. __CALLBACK_PARAM__ is the click id NewsBreak needs back; without it no conversion is counted.

How conversions get back to NewsBreak

Postback to business.newsbreak.com/tracking/attribute?callback={external_id}&event_type=complete_payment&nb_value={payout}, with the event type you set up in NewsBreak. Real spend comes from the Integration tab with an API access token.

In UTMCAP, {external_id} is NewsBreak’s own click ID and {payout} is what the conversion paid — they are filled in when each conversion is sent.

Set it up in three steps

  1. 1. Add NewsBreak as a traffic source in UTMCAP and choose its template — the macros above are filled in for you.
  2. 2. Create a campaign with that source, and copy its tracking URL.
  3. 3. Paste it into NewsBreak as the ad’s click or destination URL.

Every field of the traffic source form is explained in the traffic sources guide.
